Quilters: Have you ever made a mistake while quilting that you just hated? Yet, the recipient of the quilt loves it anyway?

Just as I had the year before, for my dad’s birthday, I waited until the last minute to start a quilt for my mother’s 60th birthday. I made this quilt in about 48 straight hours of sewing. I was tired. I was in a hurry and not being as careful as I should have been. Using my regular sewing machine, I embroidered a quote and some hearts around the edges of this quilt. This is NOT something I was taught to do…I just started doing it. Real quilters would probably be appalled by this technique. Anyway, wasn’t paying attention and didn’t center the quote. By the time I noticed it was too late to do anything about it and I didn’t have time to start over or money to replace. So, I left it. Every time I see this quilt–that still hangs on my mother’s couch to this day–I cringe. I just hate it. However, my mother gets HIGHLY insulted when I say that. She LOVES that quilt! She says she doesn’t even notice the mistake and considers it part of the quilt’s character when I point it out. Baffles me! But, she loves it. So, I have tried to learn to love it too. Tried….
