Here’s a funny story. My brother and his wife were married in March of 2000. I didn’t know my new sister-in-law very well. So, when I was ready to start making her quilt, I asked my brother, “What colors should I use”. He said, “Red, White & Blue. She’s using a patriotic theme for the living room.” He was in the army at the time. I remember thinking, “Oh how cool. I can honor him and please her! Yay!” So, I bought Red, white and blue fabric and got busy.
Later, after the quilt was finished. My mother told me that Christy (the sis-in-law) was ACTUALLY doing her living room in VINTAGE Red, white and blue—more maroon and creme. ARGH!!!
A friend said, “I know a technique you can use to make your quilt look more vintage.” I followed her instructions and let my new S.I.L’s quilt soak in tea for a week. That was supposed to age it–a little. It didn’t. OH, NO!! None of the tea stain took. However, it did harm the fabric JUST ENOUGH to make it look used and abused. OH, NO! I had no time to make another. OHHHH, NOOOO! So…had to explain it all to my new S.I.L. I was very embarrassed and felt like a fool. She laughed and said she loved it anyway. Whew!
