Lester’s Quilt

March 2002

My husband asked me for a quilt made from denim. I have no idea why. It took me a couple of weeks to scrounge up enough thrift-store jeans to make it from. It was incredibly simple to make. HOWEVER–BEGINNERS–when using denim, (take it from me) use a larger seam allowance than the 1/4 inch we all use with other fabrics. Denim shreds! I used the 1/4″ seam, not knowing any better, and most of this quilt has fallen apart. Every time I wash it, it shreds a little more. Now it looks like a Frankenstein quilt. I use RED EMBROIDERY thread to repair it. It gets uglier and uglier every year. But, he loves it! It’s backed with plain muslin and hand-tied with read yarn. IT IS EXTREMELY HEAVY! Lester uses it when camping or when it’s very cold.
