My mother had been attending “Block of the Month” classes at one of the local quilt shops in Burleson, Texas where we lived. She suggested I do the same. I was still fairly new to quilting and needed all the help I could get.
It was too late to join her group but the second shop in town was just about to begin a session so I signed up. The third Saturday of each month I got up early and went to the quilt shop to get my package of Block supplies and fabric. Baylie (my youngest) went with me each time. It turned out to be some really fun “mother/daughter” time.
We started this quilt in November of 2001 and it was completed in December of the following year. Each block pattern is different. Some were easy to sew and some were very difficult. But it was fun to do as a whole. I decided to hand quilt it which turned out the be the very best decision I could have made. It’s beautiful. BUT, Charlie (our Weenie/Heeler) chewed a big chunk out of it in the spring of 2004 because he was having some abandonment issues when our eldest daughter, Katie, left him with us to move into her own apt where dogs weren’t allowed. He chewed off one whole corner. I wanted to kill the little poot. However, I repaired it the best I could and now it has a different kind of charm. It’s unique.
