Review: The Shadows: A Novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood

5 Stars

By: J R Ward

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Setting: Present Day Caldwell, New York

I have been reading J R Ward books almost non-stop since I first discovered her writing seven or eight years ago. I have read every single story in her Black Dagger Brotherhood series. This latest offering, THE SHADOWS, is just as wonderful, just as engaging and just as exciting as every other one that has come before.
THE SHADOWS tells the story of twins Trez and iAm (strange names I know, but somehow it works). They are members of the s’Hisbe, a strange race of people. As an infant, Trez’ parents sold him to sexual servitude to the queen of the race. In early adulthood, he escapes the palace and with his brother’s help tries to make a life with the vampires of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
Trez falls in love with a “chosen”…an angel of sorts from the vampire version of heaven—and life is good….for a short while.

I love these characters and their back story. The Black Dagger Brotherhood books are amazing and this one is no exception. I binged on it—starting in on a Friday afternoon and reading (almost) straight through to Sunday evening. I was hooked from page one.
If you love the Black Dagger Brotherhood (and who doesn’t?), you’ll love THE SHADOWS.

"I'd like to think of myself as a blended mix of Southern charm and humor. What I really am is a hot mess of sin and sass. Jesus loves me either way."
